Further to the introduction and operation of the Border Control Posts (BCP’s) at the Port of Tilbury (Tilbury2) in August 2024, The Port oF Tilbury (Tilbury2) have communicated that they face significant additional costs in the operation of the BCP.

The Port Of Tilbury (Tilbury2) have stated that they have experienced substantial increases in the volume of seized goods by the regulatory bodies, increased electricity charges, additional supplier costs and also National Insurance changes now need to be considered after maintaining their current charges for over 16 months.

As a result The Port of Tilbury (Tibury2) have informed all their customers that as from the 15th of February 2026, the BCP charges will increase by 4.5%, aligned with September 2025 passing RPI, rising to £15.00 per unit plus VAT where applicable.

We wanted to take this opportunity to remind you if a unit is called to the BCP in Tilbury the fixed sum per import covers the labour to open the unit, remove cargo for inspection and re-stow the cargo post inspection.

The charges will be issued in one of the two following ways:

1. MCP will pass these charges directly if you, or your clearing agent, has a Destin8 badge as the main declarant against the Master UCN for your import unit/goods.
2. If you do not have, or use an agent with, a Destin8 Badge, we as P&O Ferries will automatically be placed as the main declarant of the Master UCN and will pass on that charge to you the customer, directly. We will issue one monthly invoice with a summary sheet of the charges.

The Port of Tilbury (Tilbury2) would only charge additional charges, as listed below, if the cargo has collapsed, or in the opinion of The Port of Tilbury (Tilbury2) it has been loaded unsafely and additional work to carry out a full Restow, Handball or Rework is required.

Please see applicable BCP additional charges that are subject to VAT where applicable and will be charged to you, the customer directly by P&O Ferries on one monthly invoice with a summary sheet of the charges

1. Full Restow (Trailer / Container) Includes labour & consumables £199.18 / €248.75.
2. Hand Ball (Trailer / Container) Includes labour & consumables £721.55 / €901.94.
3. Rework (Per Pallet) Includes labour & consumables £56.73 / €70.91.
4. Bagging for detained cargo disposal includes labour & consumables £25.00 / €31.25.

The Port of Tilbury (Tilbury2) has confirmed that this is not an exhaustive list, and The Port of Tilbury (Tilbury2) reserve the right to review charges on a case-by-case basis.

All charges are likely to be reviewed by The Port of Tilbury (Tilbury2) annually.
